West Bengal government on Wednesday issued a fresh list for the biweekly lockdown in the state. The state government earlier announced complete lockdown in the state for two days every week till the end of August. To prevent the spread of coronavirus spread in the eastern state, Mamata Banerjee-led government implemented partial lockdown since July.


"Several requests and appeals have been received from different quarters to relax complete lockdown on certain dates which are coinciding with some festivals and local community based customs," the state government said in a statement on Wednesday.

  • West Bengal COVID-19 lockdown guidelines:



The state government issued a detailed guideline for partial lockdown in Bengal. The essential services will be allowed to function. Medical outlets will remain open during the lockdown. All the other shops will be closed for two days a week across the state.


All the government and private offices, commercial establishments will also be shut. The central government earlier announced that educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities will remain closed till the end of the month.


All the public and private transport will remain shut. However, Petrol pumps are allowed to function on the days of complete lockdown.



West Bengal government earlier extended the restriction on domestic flights from high prevalence places to Kolkata. No flights from six cities in the country will be allowed at the Kolkata Airport till August 31. These cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai and Ahmedabad.


The domestic flight services from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata will also remain shut on those days when lockdown is being implemented in West Bengal. The passengers were requested to contact concerned airlines to change their flight schedule.


The coronavirus count in the state surpassed the grim milestone of 1-lakh mark. At least 2,931 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, according to the state health bulletin. The death toll from COVID-19 disease increased to 2,149. The total number of active coronavirus patients increased to 25,846. Over 73,000 coronavirus patients recovered from the disease.
